Every year when the end of August creeps near I get that feeling. You know, that the-air-is-almost-crsip, I’m-going-back-to-school, shift-in-the-universe feeling? It causes wicked nostalgia, and I’m not sure for what, because I hated going back to school until my last two years of college. I do much better now without a rigid schedule–which is perhaps why I was surprised to realize that this week marks the one year anniversary of this blog!
I started it as Alyssa Says in August of 2012 and had zero direction. What did I want to write about? I’d had blogs before, but they all failed miserably when I got bored of writing melancholy treatises on my innermost thoughts. This one has, so far, succeeded (yay!) and I think it’s because I stopped being afraid to tell the general population that I’m an actor and–hey! That’s mostly what I actually want to write about! Presto. Thank you to all 935 of you who follow what I post here and who have stuck with me as I found my blogging voice and somehow managed to whip up a quasi-professional-looking website as well.
Here’s what I’ve been up to on this Blogiversary Week:
Perhaps most importantly, my parents celebrated their own 31st anniversary yesterday. (Hi parents! Hope you don’t mind I’m posting this!) My dad’s hobby is flying planes, and my mom bravely eschewed her terror of getting in his tiny 2 person plane in honor of the occasion, and they’re gallivanting about Traverse City, MI and the gorgeously quaint Mackinac Island.
I love taking long, destination-less walks around my city and I always walk by the Uptown Theatre, which is sadly abandoned and fallen into disrepair, and I imagine it in its roaring 20s heyday:
Perhaps most mundanely, I bought my first fall sweater of the season! I love sweaters like six year olds love cupcakes and I love bright colors EVEN MORE. I’ll fight you, six year olds:
And I’m looking forward to a few things this weekend: My sister is coming into town tomorrow and we’re going to have a picnic in Ingraham Park while taking in Muse of Fire Theatre Company’s Taming of the Shrew, in which my oh-so-handsome boyfriend plays Grumio. See it, you guys. Chicago Reader called it “the best [Taming of the Shrew] you’ll ever see, bar none.”
Enjoy your weekend, friends!
